MasterCard Launches New P2P Payments Service
As a slew of companies from an expanding array of industries enter the P2P payments space, MasterCard today launched a P2P payments and disbursement service called MasterCard Send, a personal payments service that allows consumers to send funds domestically and internationally. According to the company, a single connection to the MasterCard Send platform allows businesses, merchants, governments, non-profits, issuers and others to send money to consumers whether they are banked or unbanked, and located domestically or abroad.

What is Needed for Bluetooth Beacons to Incorporate Mobile Payments?
Beacons — those little ad-beaming mechanisms littering storefronts today — have been heralded as the ultimate mobile app partner for retailers. But as they exist today, they do little more than make Madison Avenue come-ons, teasing shoppers with discounts and offers that the beacons (and even the beacons in conjunction with mobile apps) can’t deliver. How can this loop be closed? Can beacons directly process payments? Unlikely, but indirect payments are all but a certainty, although that’s at least a couple of years away.

Trader Joe’s to Accept Apple Pay
Kiosks at Trader Joe’s checkout counters across the U.S. have been seeing upgrades in recent weeks and months to VeriFone touchscreen machines. Some of these payment terminals already advertise that they accept Apple Pay, as seen above at a store in Raleigh, spotted by AppleInsider.Not all stores have yet enabled support for Apple Pay, even if the new VeriFone terminals are installed. For example, a trip Friday afternoon to the Trader Joe’s in Brooklyn revealed that Apple Pay is not yet being accepted, and a check-out clerk mentioned that support is forthcoming at an unknown date. Survey Finds Growing Opportunity for Mobile Payments at Restaurants
Harbortouch, a national supplier of point of sale (POS) systems, published the results of a recent survey investigating the changing attitudes consumers have toward mobile payments technology. The results of the survey of 1,000 U.S. adults, fielded in April 2015, examined the current state of mobile payment adoption, and demonstrated a shift in consumers’ comfort level and acceptance, with a greater focus on interface and experience.
